Mitchell Brown

Dr. Brown teaches at Auburn University, where she specializes in the challenges facing marginalized communities and the nature and effectiveness of tools for building community capacity.  Her research has appeared in Public Administration Review, Politics and Policy, and the Journal of Conflict Resolution, among other venues.  She is currently the Associate Editor of the Journal of Political Science Education.

In addition to her academic scholarship, Dr. Brown coordinates an MPA Internship Program, she contributes to Auburn’s Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Organizations and Community Governance, and with Kathleen Hale directs the Community Governance Research Project which has engaged in research throughout Alabama. She is also serving her second term on the state’s Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board.

Her recent book (with Kathleen Hale), How We Vote: Innovations in American Elections, was published by Georgetown University Press in 2020.
