2023 SPSA Call for Proposals
The Southern Political Science Association is requesting academic paper and panel proposals for its 93rd Annual Meeting taking place in St. Pete Beach, FL, January 11-14, 2023.
Message from the Program Chair, Byron D’Andra Orey:
The SPSA is excited to invite political scientists from across the U.S. and around the world to participate in its 2023 Annual Meeting in St Pete’s Beach, Florida, January 11-14. As usual, the annual meeting will provide a forum for sharing ideas, research results, and professional insights in a collegial setting; and even though the 2022 hybrid meeting was a great success, we definitely look forward to a return to the in-person conference format this coming year!
The 2023 Program Committee is made up of terrific, energetic scholars who will be working on ways to make this conference a meaningful experience for political scientists from across all fields of study. Please consider presenting your work by submitting a proposal for a paper (or whole panel). SPSA will continue to offer an opportunity for scholars to explore topical areas and more narrowly defined lines of inquiry for proposed “conferences within a conference.”

D’Andra Orey (PhD, University of New Orleans) is a professor of political science at Jackson State University with research and teaching interests in the areas of race, politics, and social justice; focusing heavily on the psychology of Black trauma, implicit bias, voting rights, police reform, and systemic racism.
His work has been published in American Politics Research, Twin Research and Human Genetics, State Politics and Policy Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, Journal of Women, Politics and Policy, Race and Policy, and the Journal of Black Studies. Commentary by Professor Orey has also appeared in several media outlets, including Al Jazeera, MSNBC, CNN, the Daily Beast, and the News Hour (PBS).
