Auburn University at Montgomery will be hosting an interdisciplinary Southern Studies Conference from January 31 to February 1, 2020. New walking trail from Caribe Hilton to Old Town San Juan

The Paseo Puerta de Tierra pedestrian trail, unveiled in 2017, now connects the SPSA’s conference hotel, the Caribe Hilton, with Old Town San Juan.  This will allow meeting attendees to walk, jog or bicycle from the 2020 meeting to the restaurants and cultural events going on in town!  More information can be found HERE!

In Memoriam: Former SPSA President Dr. Robert J. Huckshorn

Robert Jack Huckshorn died on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at the age of 90.  

Born Oct. 7, 1928, in the small town of Houston, MO, in the Ozark Mountains, Dr. Huckshorn earned enough money to enroll at Missouri State University in Springfield by working in his grandfather’s hardware store and delivering newspapers. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he was drafted and assigned to the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps., serving as a Special Agent. Following his military discharg…
