Robert M. Howard is retiring as the Executive Director of the Southern Political Science Association as of December 31, 2024. Dr. Howard is also retiring from Georgia State University from his position as a Professor of Political Science
Since becoming Executive Director in 2013, Dr. Howard has overseen a significant growth in membership, conference attendance, revenue and endowment growth. During his tenure he has been responsible for the development of many policies, procedures and programs that represent best practices for not for profit associations.
At Georgia State University, Dr. Howard has written extensively in the fields of law and courts, judicial politics, public policy, and Georgia politics. He authored or co-authored eight books, and numerous articles in leading journals in political science and law. He was a former editor of the Justice System Journal and the former editor of the Routledge book series, Law, Courts and Politics.
Dr. Howard will be at the upcoming conference in Puerto Rico and we wish him, and his wife Taryn, the very best in retirement. He plans to spend his time enjoying his very own, soon to be, NBA team of five grandsons.
